DESCRIPTION:
This course will be an introductory & intermediate levels of learning (for non C/NDT therapsit who are looking to begin or expand on their NDT knowledge).

Join us for this two-day upper extremity handling experience designed for OTs and PTs working with children who experience neuromotor differences. This in-person training is designed to impact clinical reasoning and intervention skills, irrespective of diagnosis or age of the client served. Through experiential labs, clinicians will appreciate how typical development and kinesiology of the upper extremity influences treatment planning and intervention. Treatment demonstrations and hands-on practices will be the emphasis of this learning experience. 
•    Introductory and intermediate levels of learning will be offered.
•    Please come in comfortable clothing prepared to move on the floor.

 OBJECTIVES:  Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the relationship between the rib cage, trunk, and upper extremity for everyday function.
  2. Demonstrate through action typical development that contributes to shoulder girdle mobility and stability necessary for everyday function.
  3. Recognize the impact of elbow/forearm mobility upon hand function.
  4. Describe the necessary intervention strategies for the development of wrist stability for hand function.
  5. Demonstrate intervention strategies for treatment of the hand in function.
  6. Develop preliminary analysis skills of daily living activities in relationship to upper extremity treatment.

Kim Barthel  is a world-renowned teacher and occupational therapist, actively supporting multi-disciplinary function and healing in many cultures. A pioneer in reinforcing the importance of relationship in therapy, she is known for blending cutting-edge developments in neuroscience with the art of compassionate inquiry. With 37+ years as an OT, Kim’s specialties include Neuro-Developmental Treatment, Sensory Processing, Complex Behavior, Autism, Mental Health, Trauma-Sensitive Practice, and Attachment. She is an Advanced NDT-OT Instructor, author and consultant who leads trainings prolifically with therapists and professionals around the world.
