DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for PTs, PTAs, OTs, COTAs, and SLPs who have taken one or more introductory level courses in pediatric NDT and are seeking to improve their critical problem-solving skills, increase their treatment repertoire, and increase their confidence and skill in treatment. The class will be very movement-focused, with emphasis on movement sessions with other participants, as well as case presentations, practicum session with children, and problem-solving sessions for children who have cerebral palsy or similar neurologically based diagnoses. The focus of this course is to create opportunities for optimal practical application in each participant’s therapy setting.
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand more fully many of the various components of typical development of movement and posture, and how they differ from those of children with cerebral palsy.
- Develop better clinical problems solving skills and more effective treatment plans for children with cerebral palsy of various types and distribution.
- Increase repertoire of clinical handling skill for advancing motor skill development in children with neuromuscular involvement.
PRESENTER: Brett Nirider, PT & Sara Kerrick, PT, PCS, C/NDT
Sara Kerrick, PT, is a physical therapist at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Puyallup with more than 39 years of pediatric experience. NDT-trained, Sara has a master’s degree in rehabilitation medicine with an emphasis on pediatric physical therapy from the University of Washington. She has a special interest in cognitive functioning and the impact on mobility as well as exploring use of outcomes to guide Clinical Practice.
Brett Nirider, PT, is a physical therapist at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Puyallup with more than 40 years of pediatric experience. He has had training and experience in both NDT and sensory integration and has taught the eight-week pediatric NDT course, as well as assisted with the NDT baby treatment course. He particularly enjoys instructing therapists who have limited experience or exposure to NDT.
